52nd Annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade –Clear Lake to Galveston Bay

Today many boats participate and thousands view this event which will be held on Saturday, December 14th, beginning at 7pm. There will be hundreds of festively decorated powered and sailing vessels, each with its own holiday theme. Watch and hear them cruise down the Clear Lake Channel from the South Shore Harbour Marina and the Nassau Bay Lagoon, under the FM146 Bridge, past the Kemah Boardwalk and out to Galveston Bay. Come out and experience the Boat Lane Parade, it’s a Coastal Holiday Tradition!

Iron Eagle Zip Line Opens at the Kemah Boardwalk

Get ready to soar like an eagle! For those adventurous enough, (and have no fear of heights), the Iron Eagle Zip Line, manufactured by Soaring Eagle Zipline, Inc., officially opened at the Kemah Boardwalk on September 12.

The zip line reaches a height of 10 stories; the 2-person chair-lift style seating holds riders in place with a seat belt. There is a height requirement to take the ride; you must be either taller than 42”, or 42” to 48” if accompanied by an adult. The ride is located in front of the Lighthouse Buffet and Landry’s Restaurant and extends across the Boardwalk to the top of the Boardwalk Inn. Iron Eagle riders will experience a trip of 400 feet in length traveling up to 30mph.

The Iron Eagle Zip Line is not the tallest ride at the Kemah Boardwalk; the free-fall Drop Zone ranks tallest at the complex.  The Eagle Zip Line, the 13th land-based ride located at the entertainment complex, joins: the Boardwalk Bullet, Drop Zone, Boardwalk Tower, Aviator, Ferris Wheel, Wipeout, Pharaoh’s Fury, Inverter, Balloon Wheel, Red Baron, Jungle Bounce, C.P. Huntington Train, and the Double-Decker Carousel. More information about each ride and ticket prices are posted on the Kemah Boardwalk’s website.

Soaring Eagle Zipline Inc. was formed in 2010 and is located in Logan Utah. Stan Checketts, engineer and designer, has spent many years creating rides. He is best known for his design of the world’s tallest thrill ride, the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the world’s fastest roller coaster. In 2012, Soaring Eagle Zipline installed a ride at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park at Canon City, Colorado.

Kemah Picnic Parks Offer Shade & More to Visitors

Hugh Lazenberry and business partner, Shane Tallman, have enjoyed success in their new venue “The Kemah Lighthouse Maze” located in the Lighthouse District. Now, thanks to these gentlemen, anyone visiting the Kemah Boardwalk entertainment area can find a place to sit, enjoy a picnic lunch, and most importantly SHADE from the summer Texas Sun. Kemah Picnic Park has also been made possible by the kind support of area businesses sponsoring a palapa, a table, a palm, etc.

The Kemah Picnic Park will soon be complete and a grand opening ceremony will be held-no date at present. There will be three phases in this development; the first (and almost completed) phase is located at 409 Bradford Avenue, next to the Kemah Lighthouse Maze, in the Lighthouse District. Tables fitted with custom palapa umbrellas and benches are located throughout the park. Free Wi-Fi and outlets to recharge electronic devices, water fountains, ATMs, and a featured activity is also part of this unique plan.

This concept is a “no brainer” and has been a long-time coming, but thanks to Lazenberry and Tallman, visitors will have a place to regroup, recharge, and find shade from the extreme summer sun. You can follow the progress of the Kemah Picnic Parks through their Facebook page.
