The following list for local sites and their information links: Armand Bayou (Bay Area Park), Dickinson Bayou (Highway 3 Bridge), and Galveston Bay (Seabrook). To view all the locations participating and their information, follow this website link: http://www.trashbash.org/sites.html. (Suggestion: It would be best to keep checking the status of event locations, in the light of the oil spill which occurred on March 22nd.)

Trash Bash® is managed by the Texas Conservation Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization, with additional guidance and leadership from its 37-person Coordination Committee and H-GAC.

The City of League City Dedicates Ghirardi WaterSmart Park on March 22nd

The City of League City Announcement: “The City of League City invites residents to the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for the new Ghirardi WaterSmart Park located at 1810 Louisiana St. The ceremony is to be held on Saturday, March 22 at 10 am.

The Ghirardi WaterSmart Park is a collaborative effort of the City of League City, Texas SeaGrant, Texas A&M Agrilife Extension, Galveston Bay Estuary Program, and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

The 3.75-acre space was funded through the City of League City’s Park Dedication Fund and a grant through TCEQ. The park features a pavilion, walking trails and a playground, but it’s more than just another park. It also has special conservation and educational features including rain gardens, an outdoor classroom, a cistern to collect rainwater for irrigation, a green roof on the pavilion and WaterSmart landscapes. “The TCEQ grant for Ghirardi WaterSmart Park gives the City and other area entities the opportunity to study, showcase and improve water management,” said Mayor Tim Paulissen. “Water is one of our most valuable resources and we are very excited about the opportunity to learn new and better ways to utilize and conserve that resource.”

The Ghirardi WaterSmart Park is home to the 100-year-old Ghirardi Compton Oak, which was moved to the site in 2012. The Ghirardi Family of League City donated the ¾ of an acre site where the tree is now located.”
