League City Celebrates Arbor Day on November 1st

The City of League City is partnering with the League City Garden Club to host an Arbor Day Celebration and tree planting at Rustic Oaks Park. The event is set for Saturday, November 1, at 2 pm at Rustic Oaks Park located at 5101 Orange Blossom.

Trees for Houston donated twenty-five Montezuma and Bald Cypress trees for residents to plant around the pond. The ceremony will also feature educational handouts and demonstrations, free tree saplings, a brief history of Arbor Day and activities for the kids. Residents will then have the opportunity to plant a tree and enjoy refreshments courtesy of Chick-fil-A. Those who participate should dress comfortably and expect to get muddy.

Arbor Day was traditionally celebrated in April, but many states have moved the celebration to coincide with the best tree-planting season for the region. Here in Texas, Arbor Day is celebrated the first week in November.

League City Announces Plans for Cabela’s in the I-45 Corridor

League City News Release ~ “The City of League City and Pinnacle Development Group have partnered to bring a very unique retailer to League City.

Cabela's Incorporated, the World's Foremost Outfitter® of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, announced their plan to build a 72,000 square-foot store in the Pinnacle Park Development at I-45 near Big League Dreams Parkway in League City. The announcement was posted to the company’s website.

The new retail store will feature log construction, stonework, wood siding and metal roofing. The Cablea’s isn’t just a store; it’s an experience designed to give customers the feel of the outdoors with a large mountain replica, museum-quality wildlife displays and an aquarium. In addition to hunting, fishing, camping and outdoor products, the store will also include an indoor archery range and archery tech room, Gun Library, Bargain Cave, deli and fudge shop.

League City City Council approved zoning changes and a development agreement for Pinnacle Park Phase I, in a unanimous vote on October 14. The development is approximately 19 acres and includes space for Cabela’s as well as 110,000 sq. feet of additional space for several smaller retail and commercial establishments. “We are very excited to welcome a destination retailer to our community. This type of development establishes a strong foundation and catalyst for more retail opportunities in the I-45 corridor and for the city as a whole,” said City Manager Mark Rohr.

Pinnacle Park Development and Cabela’s are a part of the City’s continued efforts to attract new businesses and diversify League City’s tax base “This new development is the result of very diligent teamwork by the League City City Council, City staff, and the developers. But the work isn’t over for League City. Council and staff are already working in partnership on other projects in the City's continued efforts to attract new retail developments to the area in order to diversify League City’s tax base and provide more retail options for League City residents," said City Manager Mark Rohr.

Cabela’s expects construction to begin later this year and plan to open the new store in fall 2015. They also expect to hire 170 full-time and part-time employees, most of whom will come from League City and the surrounding area.”

Cabela’s Incorporated, headquartered in Sidney, Nebraska, is a leading specialty retailer, and the world’s largest direct marketer, of hunting, fishing, camping and related outdoor merchandise. Since the Company’s founding in 1961, Cabela’s® has grown to become one of the most well-known outdoor recreation brands in the world, and has long been recognized as the World’s Foremost Outfitter®.  Currently, Cabela’s operates 64 stores across North America and has announced plans to open an additional 17 stores during the next two years.

Correction to Blog about League City’s HEB Fuel Station

Brockway Realty, LLC recently blogged about the opening dates for League City’sHEB Fuel Station & Car Wash and the HEB Market. Unfortunately, the media source used was incorrect in their report about the opening date for the fuel station.

The pictures below were taken of the HEB market and fuel station on Thursday, October 23rd. The last photo shows a tractor trailer which has a ‘countdown’ display draped over its side. According to that display, the market will open on Wednesday, November 5th. No opening date was posted at the fuel station or car wash.

September Update on League City’s Public Safety Building

If you have not driven on West Walker Street in League City to see how construction has progressed on the new public safety building, you are in for a surprise!

Members of the LC Police Department Communications have already made their transition to their new upgraded space. Dispatchers each have a bank of monitors and multiple large-screen views of the city’s traffic cameras.

The 74,000 square feet facility, when complete, will house League City’s Police Department, Jail, Fire Administration, Dispatch Center, and the City’s Emergency Management Center.  Unlike the old police department, the public safety building is built with expansion, (approximately 24,500 square feet), in mind. Plans are focused on completing the move-in before the end October. A public open house for the center is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2014.

League City’s Fire Station #2 Holds Community Open House on Saturday, October 4th

The City  of League City – “The City of League City will hold a ribbon cutting and open house to dedicate the newly expanded Fire Station # 2 at 2120 Hobbs Rd. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, at 10 am.

The expansion will also mark the consolidation of EMS Station # 2 and Fire Station # 2. EMS Station # 2 employees previously worked from a station at 409 Newport Blvd. However, the relocation will place the ambulance and personnel more centrally within the response district with better access to major roadways.

Additionally, the expansion will provide facilities to accommodate 24 hours a day and 7 days a week staffing of fire and EMS personnel at Station #2. This expansion and remodel included sleeping quarters, kitchen facilities and additional office space. This consolidation also reduces overhead incurred by the city for operational costs.

“We are excited to have this project complete. It assists us in improving the level of emergency services provided to the citizens of League City,” said Fire Chief Brad Goudie. “We are also pleased to be able to showcase the new facility during the ribbon cutting and open house,” Goudie said.

The ceremony and open house will include a tour of the facility, a closer look at the apparatus and will also provide an opportunity for residents to get more information on both the League City Volunteer Fire Department and the League City EMS.”

The League City Fire Department has a paid fire chief, but the department is comprised of 100% volunteers (of just over 120 individuals). It is the Mission of the League City Fire Department to preserve life and property, promote public safety and foster economic growth through leadership, management and actions, as an all-risk life safety response provider that is committed to superior service to our customers, the citizens and visitors of League City. For more information about the fire department, visit their webpage.
