Update on Gulf Freeway South Widening Project in the Bay Area

Texas Department of Transportation’s, (TxDOT),  widening of Interstate 45 from Dixie Farm Road to Medical Center Boulevard is a huge project for the state, region, and community, as this project results in enhanced mobility for the 250,000 vehicles daily that traverse this important artery.
TxDoT’s project includes widening the Interstate’s main lanes to five lanes in each direction, demolishing the bridges at Bay Area Boulevard and El Dorado (Dixie Farm Road has already been completed) to facilitate smoother main lane mobility, reconfiguring some of the on and off connections, and enhancing the feeder roads both north and southbound.

An Estimated Timeline for This Work is as Follows
  • Southbound Frontage Road North of Bay Area Boulevard — June 2014-October 2014
  • Southbound Frontage Road South of Bay Area Boulevard — October2014-November 2014
  • Demolish Bay Area Boulevard Bridge — January 2015
  • Reopen Bay Area Boulevard at I-45 — April-May 2015
  • Work on Northbound Frontage Road — January 2015-June 2015
