A Texas Tradition – Go Texan Day – February 27th

“In order to preserve our proud Texas tradition and build awareness of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™, the Show challenges schools, businesses, organizations, and clubs to participate in a one-day event that will build pride in our Texas and Western heritage throughout Houston and the surrounding areas.” (Excerpt from the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo [HLS&R] website).

A total of 12 Trail Rides begin their journey to Houston; beginning at different times due to the distance they travel. The Los Vaqueros Rio Grande Trail Ride began their 386 mile ride which began in Reynosa, Mexico. The Texas Independence Trail Ride, established in 1961, will pass through the Bay Area, stopping overnight at local parks. All of the trail riders will meet in Houston, camp overnight in Memorial Park (Feb 27), and then join together to take their final ride in the HLS&R parade (Feb 28).
