The City of Friendswood has recently been awarded two new honors: one of the Best Suburbs to Live in the Houston Metro and one of the Safest Cities in Texas.
Niche ranked Friendswood as the 11th Best Suburb in the Houston area. They based their list on crime, public schools, cost of living, job opportunities, and local amenities data from a variety of government sources.
SafeWise announced that Friendswood has moved up to Number 10 (from 14 last year) on their 2016 Safest Cities in Texas list.
SafeWise reviewed the most recent FBI Crime Report statistics and population data for cities with more than 10,000 residents. They narrowed down the list, based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) in each city. “To further level the playing field, we calculated the likelihood of these crimes occurring out of 1,000 people in each city,” according to the SafeWise website.
These honors are the result of generations of people working hard to preserve the principles of Friendswood’s founders who believed in faith, family and education. It is a privilege to credit our City Staff, especially the Police Department, along with business leaders and the hundreds of citizens who volunteer to make Friendswood so deserving of these rankings,” said Friendswood Mayor Kevin Holland.
“We are grateful to Niche and SafeWise for compiling these rankings. Where the City of Friendswood placed is the direct result of teamwork within the Police Department and with residents. That is what makes Friendswood a safe place to live, work and raise a family,” said Robert Wieners, Chief of the Friendswood Police Department.
