Kids Cooking Club with Chef Jimmy – Making a Difference

In 2012 James Graves, known to the community as Chef Jimmy, partnered with Rev. Robin Reeves to form a Kids Cooking Club to motivate kids and their families to work together, laugh together, and make healthier food choices.  What started with only a handful of kids, the Kids Cooking Club now averages 30 to 60 kids and their parents.  Chef Jimmy’s vision was to serve these kids and their families while creating a closer community.  He was convinced that the kitchen at St. George’s Episcopal Church was the place to make it happen.

Chef Jimmy is an Advertising Sales Representative at The Post, a Faith based newspaper in Texas City, Texas dedicated to local news and events, but spent years prior to that in the restaurant industry.  He says “God put it on my heart to go back and start cooking and to do it for kids”.

His message is delivered to these families the second Saturday of every month at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Texas City.  It’s here that these families learn to work together to discover healthier food choices and learn positive eating habits.  Learning positive eating habits at a young age can reap benefits for a lifetime.  Besides, it’s a lot more fun when you’re making it yourself!

The food donations for the cooking class come from The Galveston County Food Bank, along with several other contributors.  The next cooking class is on June 11th starting at 12:00 p.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 510 13th Avenue North, Texas City, TX 77590.  For more information on the Kids Cooking Club you can follow them on Facebook.

Thank you, Chef Jimmy, for making a difference!
