March 29th Community Easter Egg Hunts in League City and Nassau Bay

League City ~The City of League City’s Park & Rec Dept. will host their annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Chester L. Davis Sportsplex, 1251 League City Parkway, beginning at 1 pm on Sunday, March 29^th. This free event is open to children, ages 0-12 yrs. There will be over 2,000 eggs to hunt and the Easter Bunny will be available for photos.

Nassau Bay ~The City of Nassau Bay will host a community Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, March 29^th, at Lake Nassau Park, 18900 Upper Bay Road. The free event will begin at 2 pm.

Pearland Park & Rec Hosts 21st Annual Paws in the Park

The City of Pearland’s Parks and Recreation department teams up with Pup Squad Animal Rescue to host the 21^st annual Paws in the Park. This event will be held in Saturday, March 28^th and Sunday March 29^th, at Independence Park, located at 3919 Liberty Drive. This free community event is open to everyone and their pets.

The HEB Plus! Pet and Owner Fun Run,(1k, 3k, and 5k), will kick of the festivities. Other activities include: the National Dock Diving competition; flyball demonstrations; doggie dancing; costume contests; and U.S. Disc Nationals. For the full schedule of events visit the City’s website.

Southwest International Boat Show Begins on March 27th

Welcome to the 7th Annual South West International Boat Show

The largest in-water Boat Show in the Southwest – and the premier sail and power show for new and pre-owned vessels.

This exciting event on Clear Lake, in Bay Area Houston, features boats ranging in size from 10ft. to 100ft, both freshwater and saltwater ready for boarding and viewing – with pre-season specials and Dealer incentive programs available on many models.

Onshore, over 200 vendors will offer a variety of services and products for the boating and outdoor lifestyle, including fishing gear, engines, apparel and outdoor equipment, in addition to a full range of marine electronics, sailing gear, accessories and hardware from top industry names. Dealers and manufacturers will also be on hand to provide valuable information and answer any questions.

GEICO presents the Southwest’s largest In-Water Boat Show, for the 6^th year, at the South Shore Harbour Marina, 2551 South Shore Blvd in League City. The Southwest International Boat Show will begin on Thursday, March 27^th and run through Sunday, March 30^th.

As the Southwest’s Premier Power and Sail Show, and the largest in-water boat show in Texas, the show will feature over 200 vendors and a display of every type of vessel, both freshwater and saltwater, from 10ft to 80ft at the South Shore Harbour Marina, and with plenty of free parking, and ongoing entertainment, there is no better place to go boat shopping whilst enjoying a great day out with the family.

Boat Show attendees will have access to Free Hourly Seminars throughout the four days of the Show, and both new and seasoned boaters have the opportunity to sign up for the Discover Boating on-water hands on skills training programs for both power and sail. Other attractions within the Show will include. The Haii Inc. Live Shark Experience , the Be A Diver Pool, a Craft Beer Tastings, and Live Bands each day.

There is a Park for the 4-Legged Member of the Family

If you live in an apartment, a condo, or just need more space for your dog to run and play, you might want to find a local dog park. Here is information about established parks, a park that just opened, and discussions about approving a dog park in the Galveston Bay Area. Remember, each park has their rules posted at the entrance-please read them and be a good neighbor.

Nassau Bay Dog Park- Lake Nassau Park, located at the southern-most end of Upper Bay Road, adjacent to Lake Nassau; 18900 Upper Bay Road, Nassau Bay. The dog park is fenced.

Bay Area Dog Park– located at 7500 East Bay Area Blvd, Clear Lake/Pasadena. Opened in 2009; this fenced 5.3 acre dog park has a separate area for small dogs, drinking water & wash stations, shade and benches.

Pearland – Southdown Dog Park, located at 2150 Countryplace Parkway. Amenities include covered picnic area, dog waste stations, shade structures, water fountain.

Pearland –Independence Dog Park, located at 3919 Liberty Drive. Your pet can play off-leash in this fenced park which includes separate areas for small and large dogs.

Texas City Dog Park– Amoco Park, located at 1500 29^th Street North. The 5.8 acre fenced park had their soft opening the first week of February; a Grand Opening is scheduled for February 28^th. Amenities include: separate areas for large/small dogs, water fountains (for dogs & owners), benches, and agility equipment. Future plans are to build a pavilion nearby.

League City currently has no dog park. In 2009, the League City Council voted to proceed with plans for a dog park, but then postponed the development to evaluate priorities and costs. In April 2014, the League City Council voted 7-1 to direct city staff to weigh public interest in a dog park through a survey. There has been no update.

World Gym in Texas City, Largest in the State

When business slowed and stores began to move out of the Mall of the Mainland, located at 10000 Emmett F. Lowry Expressway in Texas City, many wondered what would become of the shopping mall. Rumors began to circulate about investors who had submitted a contract on a large parcel of the area.

On January 24^th, 2015, the State’s largest World Gym Fitness Center-Gym-Physical Fitness opened; joining Palais Royal at the 150,000 sq. ft. (former) Macy’s building, which was redeveloped and subdivided. The gym features a 60-yard indoor track, group classes, cardio equipment, a CrossFit area and much more!
