53rd Annual Tackle Time Fishing Tournament Begins June 26th in Texas City

The Texas City-La Marque Jaycees are again presenting the (53^rd) Annual Tackle Time Fishing Tournament beginning Friday, June 26^th through Sunday, July 5^th. The tournament will take place at the Texas City Dike, located at Texas City Dike Road.

Tickets available at Tournament Headquarters, Boyd’s One Stop, and Lee’s Bait & Tackle; Entry fees are $10 for youth division, $25 for inshore, and $50 for inshore/offshore combo. 1st Annual Firefighters Games on 6th Street in Texas City

Texas City ~ The 1^st Annual Firefighters Games on 6^th Street will be held on Saturday, June 20^th. This all-day event will take place at the Showboat Pavilion, 416 6^th Street North.

The following activities will take place:

Fire Fighter Competitions:

• Water Ball Competition (10:00 am Saturday)
• Pumper Races (10:00 am Saturday)

Events Open to All Competitors:

• Fun Run (7:00 am Saturday)
• Parade (9:00 am Saturday, Lineup at 8 am Saturday)
• BBQ Cook-off (5:00 pm Friday)
• Horseshoe Tournament (10:00 am Saturday)

The 8^th Annual Texas Outlaw Challenge will begin on Wednesday, June 17^th and continue through Sunday, June 21^st.

June 18^th -Extreme Boat displays and the Texas Style Street Party;

Start Your Summer with Music & Fireworks at The Kemah Boardwalk

The Thursday night summer concert series has begun at The Kemah Boardwalk, 215 Kipp Ave. Rock The Dock bands play at the stage located by the fountains at 7 pm – 10:30 pm. Bring your lawn chairs to relax and enjoy the tunes played by popular local groups from the Texas Coast. The concert series continues through August 27^th. For information about who will be playing at Rock The Dock, visit the Boardwalk’s website, or call 281.535-8100. There is no charge to enjoy the music.

Friday Night Fireworks at The Kemah Boardwalk simply means “Enjoy some sparkle over Galveston Bay”. You don’t have to wait for the 4^th of July to see fireworks. Every Friday evening during the months of June and July, a fireworks show will begin at 9:30 pm. No charge to bring your family to enjoy the “sparkle”.

Galveston County Farmers’ Market to be Held at League City Park – June 14th

Lynn Gripon Park at Countryside, located at 100 Alderwood Street in League City, will be the place to be on Sunday, June 14^th. The Galveston County Farmers’ Market and Mutt Mesh Bash (Pet Adoptions) will be held at the park’s pavilion from 10 am to 3 pm. This is a free event.

Local vendors, fresh produce from local farmers, local craters and artisans will be coming together to help support The United Way. Vendors by D hosts shopping events in the Greater Houston area. Mutt Mesh is a local animal rescue and will be presenting animals needing a home,

The City of League City Offers FREE Music & Movies in the Park

Looking for some FREE family fun?  Bring your family and friends to League Park, 512 2^nd Street, for the summer “Music & Movies in the Park”. You may bring your lawn chairs, snacks, picnic dinners, and soft drinks; remember glass containers are prohibited in all League City parks. You might want to bring some bug spray, just in case, to deter mosquitos. Best of all, Admission is FREE.

Concerts are scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm and movies should start around 8 pm. A list below shows the dates, concert groups and movies planned for the summer:

Two Bay Area Communities are Winners of the 2015 Texas Governor’s Community Achievement Award

Early in March, the Keep Texas Beautiful announced the ten (10) winners of the 2015 Governors Community Achievement Awards.  Amongst those winning communities, are two located in the Bay Area; Keep Dickinson Beautiful and Keep Friendswood Beautiful. The environmental awards recognize the best grassroots environmental programs in the state, and are awarded in 10 different categories, based on population.

Dickinson was awarded $180,000 and Friendswood was awarded $210,000; TxDOT (Texas Dept. of Transportation) provides the funds for the landscaping awards presented. A dinner and formal award presentation will be held during Keep Texas Beautiful 48th Annual Conference in Fort Worth on June 15-17, 2015.

National Hurricane Center/NOAA –“Since 1953, Atlantic tropical storms had been named from lists originated by the National Hurricane Center. They are now maintained and updated through a strict procedure by an international committee of the World Meteorological Organization.

The only time that there is a change in the list is if a storm is so deadly or costly that the future use of its name on a different storm would be inappropriate for reasons of sensitivity. If that occurs, then at an annual meeting by the WMO committee (called primarily to discuss many other issues) the offending name is stricken from the list and another name is selected to replace it.” [http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/]
